Why It’s Important to Have an At-Home Skincare Routine

To ensure that your skin is the best it can be, establishing an at-home skincare routine is a must. Treatments at our medical spa in Denver are beneficial and can provide fast results, but properly maintaining these results at home is the foundation for keeping your skin healthy. Whether you’re new to the world of skincare or you’d like to make changes to your current routine, we’re here to help! Here, we share insights into how to build a successful regimen that will keep your skin looking and feeling its best:

Keep Your Skin in Mint Condition

Nothing quite compares to how you feel after leaving the spa. After your treatment(s), you’ll quickly notice a difference in the quality of your skin (although some treatments, such as chemical peels, may require a short healing time). While facials, chemical peels, and treatments like microneedling can work wonders for skin of any age, it’s important to acknowledge that they aren’t a one-time fix. You’ll still need to properly care for your skin at home to maintain the results you achieved at the spa. Creating a skincare routine that works for you is the best thing you can do for your skin, and investing the effort into daily care will pay off. After a few weeks of fine-tuning your program, you should begin to notice the positive effects. Keep it going for best results!

Skincare Basics

If you’re just getting started on your skincare journey, the sheer number of products on the market can feel overwhelming. Just be sure to include the basics, and ask your esthetician for recommendations if you’re ever unsure. Here are the must-haves:

  • A gentle cleanser. Most people should wash their face twice daily. Your best bet will be a cleanser that’s gentle enough to avoid causing irritation or dryness.

  • Serum. If you’re hoping to supercharge your skincare regimen, you’ll want serum in your collection. Serum, which is applied after cleansing, is effective at targeting specific concerns because it’s made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate the skin more deeply. How often you should use it will depend upon the directions on the product.

  • Toner. Toner can make a big difference in your skincare routine, as it typically contains calming ingredients such as aloe or eucalyptus and is designed to prep skin for moisturization. Toner should be applied at night after washing your face and before moisturizing.

  • Moisturizer. After you cleanse and allow your skin to dry, follow up with a moisturizer. You may find it easiest to invest in two moisturizers: one with SPF for daytime use, and one that’s more deeply hydrating for nighttime.

  • SPF. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is perhaps the most important aspect of skincare. You can purchase a standalone sunscreen, or one that’s combined with moisturizer or makeup. Just be sure to apply your sunscreen to all areas that are exposed to the sun.

  • Exfoliator. Some people are hesitant to use an exfoliating product because they’ve heard it can be harsh on the skin. While this can be true if exfoliants are overused, you can safely exfoliate two to three times per week. There are both physical and chemical exfoliants, so be sure to consult with your esthetician to determine the best course of action for your unique needs.

We’re proud of the fantastic results we achieve for our clients at our medical spa in Denver. Spa treatments are an important part of the puzzle, but proper skincare at home is even more important!
