The Art of Aging Gracefully: Skincare Tips for Mature Skin

Aging gracefully is an art that often takes some trial and error. If you’re on the search for ways to keep mature skin looking and feeling great, we have some tips for you! In addition to finding (and maintaining) a skincare routine that works for you, working with a med spa team is helpful. Skincare needs evolve as we age, and it can be challenging to find a new rhythm. The experts at our medi spa in Denver are always happy to create a customized plan designed to achieve your goals for your unique skin. Here’s an overview of what you can do to treat yourself to healthy skin at any age:

Find a Gentle Cleanser

As our skin ages, we naturally lose some of its protective barrier, and on occasion our skin becomes even more dry or sensitive. To avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils, be sure to find a gentle cleanser. If your skin is on the drier side, look for a cleanser that contains protective ingredients such as ceramides. You may also notice that cream cleaner (rather than foaming) leaves your skin feeling softer and more moisturized.

Continue to Exfoliate (Within Reason)

There’s a common misconception that mature skin shouldn’t be exfoliated. You can keep using whatever you prefer, whether your go-to products for exfoliation are chemical or physical. Because the skin loses some of its elasticity and thins with age, over-exfoliating can irritate the skin and become counterproductive. To remove dead skin cells and give the skin a brighter appearance, aim to exfoliate no more than three times per week. For best results, follow up with products that contain calming ingredients, such as chamomile or ceramides.

Indulge in Facial Massages

One of the best things you can do for your skin is commit to regular facial massages. These can be done at home, and work wonders for promoting sculpted facial muscles, increased cell turnover, and collagen production. You can keep it simple and use just your fingertips or invest in a tool to knead those facial muscles and stimulate blood flow.

Visit a Med Spa

Although the foundation for beautiful skin is a regimen that you keep up with at home, professional treatments at a spa are excellent for fine-tuning your program and delivering more potent results. Plus, our skincare experts can help you identify what’s currently going on with your skin and develop a plan for future results.
