What is Platelet Rich Fibrin?
Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is a breakthrough in aesthetic medicine and is an all-natural solution derived from the patient’s blood. Although you may have heard of platelet rich plasma (PRP), PRF was developed to overcome the limitations of its predecessor. Unlike PRP, PRF is 100% natural, and no anticoagulants are added to the sample. Additionally, PRF offers an extended-release of growth factors. Compared to PRP, PRF is much longer-acting. Because it’s spun at a lower speed, each tube of PRF contains a higher level of platelets, leukocytes, and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). To create the injectable, you’ll need to come in for a simple blood draw performed by one of our registered nurses. Once the sample has been collected, the blood will be spun in a centrifuge. From there, PRF will be extracted from the tube and combined with a gel created from your albumin (a protein from your blood sample). Now, the gel solution is ready to be injected back into your body!
This solution is an excellent alternative to filler and can provide incredible smoothing and plumping results around the eyes, cheeks, smile lines, and lips. How Long Does It Take?
Like other filler treatments, PRF injections require minimal time investment. The initial blood draw only takes a few moments, and the following injections are almost as quick. After your first session, your body will ramp up collagen and elastin production in the injected area. Growth factors are slowly released with PRF injections, and results can last up to 12 months after receiving the recommended number of treatments.
