Microblading Versus Nano Brows: Which Procedure is Right for You?

Nano brows and microblading are med spa procedures (provided at our Denver med spa) that use ink to enhance the eyebrows and make them more voluminous. But while these procedures are similar, they’re not quite the same. Read on to discover the important differences.

How do the Procedures Differ?

The nano brows technique is executed with a machine that uses extremely fine needles to deposit ink into the skin and create hair strokes. The machine reduces the risk of operator error and allows more precision, ensuring that the ink is deposited at the correct depth.

Microblading, on the other hand, is a manual-based process. It uses a bladed tool that is dipped into ink and dragged across the skin, allowing the ink to deposit into the freshly made cut. This process is repeated until the cut contains enough ink to create a stroke.

What’s the Risk of Bleeding?

The nano brows procedure tends to cause less trauma to the skin, resulting in less bleeding, scabbing, and scarring. Because the machine is so accurate, the ink is only deposited into the epidermis, the top layer of the skin, which is void of blood vessels. The nano brows technique is appropriate for all skin types because of its precision.

With microblading, the ink will occasionally go deeper than the epidermis. While it’s not intentional, a new or unskilled practitioner can deposit ink into the dermis, increasing the odds of bleeding, scabbing, and scarring. Due to its variability, microblading is not ideal for anyone whose skin is sensitive or thin. However, microblading is the procedure of choice for those who have little-to-no hair.

Which Procedure is More Painful?

In general, most people find nano brows to be less painful than microblading. Regardless of the procedure, however, some discomfort may be experienced during the first 15 minutes, but clients will be fully numb upon the second numbing application. Appointments can last up to two hours, so clients should not feel discomfort for the majority of the appointment.

How Often Do the Procedures Need to be Repeated?

Like many beauty treatments, neither nano brows nor microblading last forever. On average, touch-up appointments are generally every 4-6 months or once a year, as it depends on the individual client’s skin. Touch-ups may also be scheduled as soon as six weeks after the initial appointment, if desired. If clients regularly return for eyebrow waxing, the practitioners can guide them as to when a touch-up is needed.

Nano brows appear to be the future of this cosmetic niche. Schedule an appointment to see what the rage is all about.
